With the Spatial Dynamics series, Fadjar Sidik departed from the tradition of painting that sought to imitate the natural world. Instead, he developed a visual language built entirely from line, shape, colour, and space. These geometric forms are not intended to represent recognisable objects but to create rhythm, balance, and movement that can be experienced directly by the viewer.

 

This marked a significant turning point in the development of abstract art in Indonesia. Fadjar Sidik described his approach as expressive design- an effort to free painting from representation and explore new possibilities through the relationships between forms. Carefully balanced yet dynamic, Spatial Dynamics I demonstrates how visual elements themselves can become the true subject of a painting. The painting entered the Museum of Fine Arts collection through a donation by Adam Malik in 1976.
